The morning of the wedding was bright, almost painfully beautiful. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the bridal suite, illuminating the air with a golden glow. Everything looked perfectโ€”the polished floors, the delicate flowers, the soft music playing in the background. It was supposed to be a day of celebration.

But the moment I stepped into the room, I knew something was terribly wrong.

Every bridesmaid stood together near the mirrors, dressed in elegant royal blue gowns. The color was rich and deep, shimmering softly under the light. Their dresses matched perfectlyโ€”every detail coordinated, every shade identical.

And then there was me.

I stood frozen at the entrance in my ivory dress, the one my best friend, Clara, had personally told me to wear. The fabric suddenly felt heavier against my skin, the color glaringly bright compared to the sea of blue surrounding me. Conversations stopped. Eyes turned. A wave of whispers rippled through the room.

Clara slowly turned around. Her expression, once radiant with bridal excitement, hardened into something cold and sharp.

โ€œWhat are you wearing?โ€ she asked, her voice dangerously quiet.

My heart skipped. โ€œThe ivory dressโ€ฆ the one you told me to wear,โ€ I said carefully, confused by the hostility in her tone.

Her lips curled in disbelief. โ€œAre you insane?โ€ she sneered loudly enough for everyone to hear. โ€œYou show up to my wedding in white? Are you trying to upstage me?โ€

Gasps filled the room. The accusation struck me like a slap.

โ€œNoโ€”Clara, you told me,โ€ I insisted, fumbling for my phone. โ€œYou said it was a โ€˜chic reverse palette.โ€™ You told me everyone else would wear darker tones.โ€

Her eyes flashed with anger. โ€œI would never say that. Why would any bride want someone else wearing white?โ€

The room seemed to spin. My hands trembled as I unlocked my phone, desperate to prove the truth. I scrolled through our conversation thread, searching for the messages she had sent just three days earlier.

But they were gone.

Not deleted from my sideโ€”gone entirely, as if they had never existed. The screen showed only older conversations, cheerful wedding planning messages, reminders about rehearsal times. Nothing about an ivory dress.

A cold dread settled in my chest. โ€œThey were here,โ€ I whispered. โ€œI swear they were here.โ€

Clara laughed sharply, her voice dripping with contempt. โ€œThis is unbelievable. After everything Iโ€™ve done for you, you try to embarrass me on my wedding day?โ€

The bridesmaids stared at me with judgmental expressions. I felt trapped, humiliated, and utterly confused. Clara had been my best friend for fifteen years. We had shared secrets, heartbreaks, dreams. Why would she lie?

Why would she set me up?

Before I could speak again, the door opened.

The groom, Daniel, stepped into the room. He looked composed in his tailored suit, though his eyes immediately scanned the tense atmosphere. His gaze landed on me, then on Clara, then on the silent bridesmaids.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€ he asked.

Claraโ€™s voice turned brittle. โ€œShe showed up in white. She claims I told her to.โ€

Daniel frowned slightly, his eyes narrowing. โ€œYou told her to?โ€ he asked Clara.

โ€œOf course not,โ€ she snapped. โ€œSheโ€™s lying.โ€

Something in Danielโ€™s expression changedโ€”subtle, but unmistakable. He walked slowly toward me, his attention fixed on my trembling hands still clutching the phone.

โ€œMay I see?โ€ he asked gently.

I handed him the device, my throat tight. He scrolled through the messages, his brow furrowing deeper with each passing second. Then he stopped.

โ€œStrange,โ€ he murmured.

Clara crossed her arms. โ€œThereโ€™s nothing there. Because I never sent anything.โ€

Daniel didnโ€™t answer immediately. Instead, he reached into his own pocket and pulled out his phone. With a few quick movements, he opened something and turned the screen toward the room.

โ€œI believe sheโ€™s telling the truth,โ€ he said quietly.

Claraโ€™s face drained of color.

On Danielโ€™s screen was a forwarded messageโ€”a screenshot Clara herself had sent him days earlier. It showed the exact conversation: Clara instructing me to wear ivory, praising the โ€œreverse paletteโ€ ideaฬงrโ€”encouraging the bold choice, even insisting it would make the ceremony more elegant.

The room fell silent.

โ€œYou sent this to me,โ€ Daniel continued, his voice steady but cold. โ€œYou said you wanted to test her loyalty. You wanted to see if she would follow your instructions even if it made her look bad.โ€

A stunned murmur spread among the bridesmaids.

Claraโ€™s composure cracked. โ€œIโ€ฆ I was just curious,โ€ she stammered. โ€œI wanted to see if she would question me. I didnโ€™t think sheโ€™d actually do it.โ€
