The ballroom shimmered with soft golden lights, crystal chandeliers glowing above rows of elegantly decorated tables. White roses and candles lined the aisle, and the gentle sound of a string quartet filled the air.

My wedding day had finally arrived, the day I had dreamed about for years. Friends and family gathered in their finest clothes, laughter echoing through the grand hall as glasses clinked and cameras flashed.
I stood near the stage beside my husband, Daniel, greeting guests and thanking them for coming. Everything felt perfectโalmost too perfect. Yet deep down, there was a tension in my chest that I couldnโt quite shake. It had nothing to do with the wedding itself. The source of that uneasiness had a name: my sister, Laura.
Laura and I had once been close when we were younger. But over the years, jealousy had quietly replaced affection. While I built a real estate business from the ground upโeventually owning several valuable condominium propertiesโLaura struggled with debt, failed ventures, and poor decisions. Instead of asking for help honestly, she often hinted that I โowed herโ something simply because we were family.
Two weeks before my wedding, she crossed a line I never imagined she would.
Late one night, she called me and demanded that I meet her privately. Her voice sounded strangeโconfident, almost threatening. Curious and uneasy, I agreed to meet her at a quiet cafรฉ the next morning.
When I arrived, Laura slid a manila envelope across the table without saying a word.
โOpen it,โ she said.
Inside were photographs. At first glance, they looked like images of me meeting with another man late at nightโhugging him, laughing with him, standing close enough to appear intimate. The photos were clearly meant to suggest that I was cheating on Daniel.
My stomach dropped for a moment. But then I looked closer. The angles were odd, the lighting inconsistent. And most importantly, the man in the photos was actually my lawyer, taken during business meetings about property contracts. Someone had manipulated the images to make them appear scandalous.
Laura leaned back in her chair and smiled slowly.
โIf Daniel sees these, the weddingโs over,โ she said calmly. โBut Iโm willing to keep them privateโฆ for a price.โ
I felt cold. โWhat price?โ
โI want the five condos in Riverside District transferred to my name,โ she said, her voice completely serious. โSign them over, and the photos disappear.โ
Those five condos were some of my most valuable investmentsโworth millions altogether. They represented years of work, sacrifices, sleepless nights, and risk-taking.
And my own sister was trying to steal them from me.
For a few seconds, I said nothing. Then I simply nodded and said quietly, โLet me think about it.โ
Laura assumed she had already won. She walked out of the cafรฉ with the same smug confidence she always carried when she believed she had the upper hand.
But what she didnโt realize was that I had immediately contacted my lawyer and a private investigator. Within days, we uncovered the full truth. Laura had hired someone to secretly photograph my meetings and digitally manipulate the images. She had also sent threatening messages demanding the properties if I wanted the โscandalโ kept secret.
Those messages became crucial evidence.
The police advised me to allow Laura to continue believing her plan was working. If she attempted the blackmail again, they would have everything needed to arrest her for extortion.
And so I waited.
The wedding day arrived, and everything unfolded exactly as planned.
During the reception, just after dinner, Laura approached me near the stage. Her smile was sharp, almost triumphant.
โWell?โ she asked quietly. โDid you bring the documents?โ
I looked at her calmly. โYes,โ I replied. โBut first I want to show everyone something.โ
She frowned slightly, confused.
I stepped toward the microphone and addressed the guests.
โBefore the next toast,โ I said, โI want to share a short presentation on the screen behind us. Itโs about familyโฆ and trust.โ
The room grew quiet as the large screen behind the stage lit up.
At first, the same fake photos Laura had shown me appeared on the screen. Gasps spread through the crowd. Guests whispered, confused and shocked. Lauraโs smile widened as she folded her arms, clearly enjoying the moment.
But then the slideshow changed.
The next images revealed the full digital edits, showing how the photos had been manipulated. Then came screenshots of Lauraโs threatening messages demanding the five condos in exchange for silence.
