The late afternoon sky had turned dark with gathering storm clouds, and cold wind swept across the rural hillside where scattered fences divided the rocky pastureland. Dry grass bent under the gusts while loose pieces of metal rattled softly against old wooden posts near the edge of the field.

Close to a broken section of fencing, a helpless goat struggled desperately.
Its body had become tangled in both rope and barbed wire near the base of the damaged fence. The goat had likely wandered too close while searching for grass between the posts, only for the loose rope to wrap around its legs before pulling it directly into the sharp wire.
Now every movement made things worse.
The rope tightened.
The wire pulled painfully against its fur.
The frightened goat cried loudly, its panicked calls echoing across the hillside.
Nearby stood a tiny baby kid.
The young goat remained only a few feet away, too small to understand how to help but unwilling to leave its mother alone. Every time the trapped goat cried out, the baby answered with soft nervous bleats of its own.
The little kid stepped closer carefully.
Then backed away again when the tangled wire shifted dangerously.
The trapped goat tried once more to pull free.
The barbed wire snapped tight against the broken wooden post, stopping the movement instantly. The goat stumbled sideways into the dirt, exhausted and frightened.
The baby kid rushed closer immediately, pressing near its mother while trembling in fear.
Heavy clouds moved overhead.
The first light drops of rain began falling across the pasture.
Then, in the distance, the sound of an approaching vehicle echoed along the gravel road below the hillside.
A farm utility truck slowly climbed toward the pasture gate. Behind the wheel sat a local shepherd named Tomas, returning to check livestock before the storm fully arrived.
As he reached the top of the hill, he noticed unusual movement near the damaged fence.
At first, he thought two goats were simply sheltering near the posts.
Then he heard the crying.
Tomas stopped immediately.
โOh noโฆโ
He stepped quickly from the truck and hurried toward the fence line, careful not to startle the already panicked animals.
The baby kid noticed him first and froze.
The trapped goat struggled harder at the sight of movement, pulling desperately against the rope again. The barbed wire shifted sharply, and Tomas immediately slowed his approach.
โEasyโฆ easy,โ he called softly.
The goatโs breathing was rapid with fear.
Rain fell harder now, darkening the dirt and making the hillside slippery beneath his boots.
Tomas crouched several feet away to examine the situation carefully.
The rope had wrapped around the goatโs front legs and twisted into the damaged barbed wire fence. Some sections of the wire had bent loose from the wooden posts, creating dangerous loops that trapped the animal tighter every time it moved.
The baby kid remained nearby, crying softly while watching everything.
โYou stayed with her the whole time, didnโt you?โ Tomas murmured quietly.
The small goat pressed closer against its trapped mother again.
Tomas removed a pair of heavy gloves and carefully reached toward the loose rope first. He knew pulling too quickly could tighten the wire or injure the goat further.
The trapped goat jerked nervously.
โItโs okay,โ Tomas said calmly. โIโm helping you.โ
Thunder rumbled faintly in the distance.
Rainwater dripped from the fence while wind moved across the open hillside.
Slowly, Tomas began loosening the outer rope loops tangled around the goatโs legs. Mud covered his gloves as he worked carefully through the soaked knots.
The baby kid watched every movement closely.
At one point, the little goat stepped so near that Tomas gently guided it back to avoid the sharp wire.
โStay back, little one.โ
The trapped goat cried again as the wire shifted slightly.
Tomas paused immediately.
โEasyโฆ donโt fight it.โ
He carefully steadied the loose wire with one hand while using small cutters from his belt to begin removing sections wrapped closest to the rope.
Each cut had to be slow and controlled.
One wrong movement could cause the sharp wire to spring back dangerously.
Minutes passed while rain continued falling around them.
The goat trembled heavily but had grown slightly calmer now that someone was helping.
Finally, Tomas reached the tightest section where the rope and barbed wire had twisted together near the broken fence post.
โThis is the hard part,โ he muttered quietly.
The baby kid let out another soft cry nearby.
Tomas carefully cut through part of the rope first.

Rainwater streamed down the metal as Tomas gripped the wire firmly with his gloved hands. Slowly, carefully, he bent the sharp section away from the animalโs body while cutting through the twisted end securing it.
