Over the weekend, Shakira appeared to notice a fan filming her dress while performing at a nightclub in Miami, leading her to abruptly leave the stage.
The 47-year-old Colombian singer was on stage in front of the DJ booth, showcasing a preview of her upcoming December single, “Soltera,” when the incident occurred. In a video posted on X, Shakira is seen dancing in a patterned minidress as she performs the song. Mid-performance, she spots someone in the crowd filming her dress, prompting her to wag a finger at the individual while tugging at the bottom of her dress. As if acknowledging the situation, she gestures toward her dress and eyes, signaling awareness of what’s happening.
Shakira briefly resumes dancing but then turns toward the person filming and makes a “cut it out” gesture before adjusting her dress and leaving the stage.
The incident quickly garnered attention on social media, with many criticizing the behavior of the individual who filmed her. One user wrote, “Artists deserve respect and privacy, both on and off stage. Ensuring everyone is in a safe environment is essential.” Another tweet read, “Whoever was filming should be arrested for sexual assault,” while a third simply stated, “People are gross.”
Others agreed, expressing sympathy for Shakira. One person said, “That’s just beyond gross. Shakira was perfectly entitled to leave; nobody should have to put up with that kind of rudeness, especially when she’s just trying to enjoy her music. People need to learn how to behave.”
Shakira and her two sons, Sasha and Milan, relocated to Miami last year after her split from Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, following rumors that Piqué had cheated on her with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. Their breakup in 2022 ended an 11-year relationship, and Shakira later posted on Instagram about their move to Miami: “I moved to Barcelona to provide stability for my kids, which is what we are now seeking in a different part of the world, close to family, friends, and the sea. We begin a new chapter in our quest for their happiness today.”
Looking ahead, Shakira is preparing for her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, set to kick off in Palm Springs, California, this November. The tour will make stops in major North American cities, including Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Montreal, and Chicago.
The tour is in support of her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, released in March, which features the song “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53.” The song contains multiple lyrical references to Piqué, which Shakira has previously discussed in relation to her management team. She recalled her manager’s advice to change the lyrics, as reported by Rolling Stone: “Naturally, I was attempting to weigh the risks and potential unforeseen circumstances, but I reminded myself that I’m an artist. I’m a female. I’m a wounded she-wolf, too. Furthermore, nobody ought to advise me on how to lick my wounds.”
