The afternoon sun hung high above the countryside, casting waves of heat over the long stretch of highway that connected several towns.

Cars sped past in both directions, their engines echoing through the open landscape. Drivers focused on reaching their destinations, unaware that a tiny life had become trapped in the middle of the chaos.

Near the edge of one lane, beside a damaged section of asphalt, a small orange kitten crouched in fear.
