Two Girls and a Navy Worker Find a Pelican Hidden Inside a Box

The two girls were walking near the waterfront when they noticed something unusual beside the path.

A Navy worker nearby also stopped when he heard movement coming from an old box.

The three looked toward the container and listened carefully.

At first, they could not tell what was making the sound.

The box appeared ordinary from the outside.

But something inside was moving.

One of the girls stepped closer and looked through a small opening.

She suddenly saw a large beak moving in the darkness.

The girls realized that a pelican was inside.

The bird had somehow ended up in the box and had very little room to move.

The Navy worker immediately came closer to inspect the situation.

He looked around the container before deciding how to approach it safely.

The girls remained nearby but kept their distance.

The pelican moved again inside the box.

Its large wings brushed against the sides as it tried to change position.

The tight space made the movement difficult.

The girls watched through the opening without trying to reach inside.

The Navy worker carefully checked whether the box could be opened without startling the bird.

The pelican remained quiet for a few moments.

Then it moved its head toward the opening.

Its eyes appeared through the narrow space.

The girls could clearly see that the bird was awake.

They wondered how long it had been inside.

The area around the box did not immediately provide an answer.

There were no people nearby who appeared to be looking for the pelican.

The Navy worker stayed calm while examining the container.

He knew that a frightened pelican could move suddenly once it had more space.

The girls stepped back slightly.

This gave the bird more room around the box while keeping everyone at a safe distance.

The pelican continued shifting inside.

Its large body made the small container look even more crowded.

The Pelican Finally Has Room to Move

The Navy worker slowly opened part of the box.

The pelican immediately raised its head.

It looked toward the opening but did not rush out.

The girls remained behind the worker and watched the bird carefully.

The pelican moved one wing slightly.

The extra space allowed it to reposition its body.

The Navy worker continued opening the container carefully.

He avoided sudden movements that could frighten the bird.

The pelican slowly moved toward the larger opening.

Its long beak appeared first.

Then its head and shoulders became visible.

The girls watched as the bird carefully stepped forward.

The pelican paused outside the box.

It looked around as if trying to understand its surroundings.

Its wings remained partly folded against its body.

The Navy worker gave it plenty of space.

The girls also stayed back.

The pelican took another step.

It was now completely outside the container.

For a moment, it simply stood there.

The girls looked relieved to see the bird moving freely again.

The pelican stretched one wing.

Then it stretched the other.

The movement showed how much larger the bird was outside the box.

The Navy worker continued watching without attempting to touch it.

The pelican looked toward the nearby water.

It slowly moved in that direction.

The girls followed with their eyes but did not chase it.

The bird eventually reached an open area near the shoreline.

It stopped and looked back toward the box.

The unusual discovery had turned into a quiet moment for everyone involved.

The girls had noticed something that could easily have been overlooked.

The Navy worker had taken the time to inspect the situation instead of leaving the bird inside.

The pelican now had space to move and choose where to go.

The scene also showed why people should be careful around wild birds.

Pelicans have large wings, strong beaks, and powerful bodies.

Even when they appear calm, they should not be handled casually.

A frightened bird can react quickly when it feels cornered.

Anyone who finds a wild bird inside a container should first keep people and pets away.

The safest approach is to contact trained wildlife rescuers or local animal professionals.

If the container can be opened safely without approaching the bird, professionals can determine the best way to provide an exit.

People should never reach into a box blindly.

The bird could be injured, frightened, or reacting defensively.

It is also important to check the surrounding area for other hazards.

What should you do if you find a pelican in a box?

Keep children, pets, and other people away from the bird.

Do not reach inside or try to pull the pelican out with your hands.

Contact a local wildlife rescue organization, veterinarian, or trained wildlife professional for guidance.

Can you rescue or approach a pelican yourself?

Avoid physically handling or restraining a wild pelican unless you are properly trained.

Its large beak and wings can cause injuries if the bird becomes frightened.

Give it space and allow trained professionals to decide how the bird should be released or treated.
