The morning sun had just begun to stretch its golden fingers over the farm, painting the fields in soft light and warming the dew-laden grass. Old Mr. Thompson’s farm was usually calm at this hour. Chickens clucked as they pecked at scattered feed, and the smaller animals began to stir in their pens. The chicks were oblivious to danger, huddled under their small heat lamps and scuttling across the yard in search of food. Finally, exhausted and intimidated by the dog’s relentless defense, the fox gave a frustrated yip and turned, retreating toward the woods. Rex watched until the predator disappeared from sight, muscles still tense, ensuring that the threat had fully left the area. Only then did he relax slightly, sitting down and letting out a satisfied pant.
