The sun had just begun to rise over a peaceful farming valley, painting the fields with soft golden light. A gentle breeze moved through the tall grass, while birds sang from nearby trees and wooden fence posts.

Farmers were beginning their daily routines, preparing tractors, feeding livestock, and checking the pastures before the day grew warmer.
Everything seemed calm, and the countryside slowly came to life.
In one of the nearby pastures lived a gentle gray donkey known for its calm temperament and curious personality.
The donkey enjoyed exploring every corner of the field, often investigating anything new that appeared along the fence line.
Whether it was a fallen branch, an empty feed bucket, or a piece of farm equipment, its curiosity usually led it to take a closer look.
A few days earlier, utility workers had completed maintenance work near the farm and temporarily left behind a large wooden cable reel beside a gravel service road.
The massive spool, built from thick wooden discs connected by a sturdy central cylinder, had been placed safely away from traffic until it could be collected later.
Although it appeared harmless, the large circular openings around the reel could become an unexpected hazard for curious animals.
While grazing near the roadside, the donkey noticed the unusual wooden reel resting in the grass.
Slowly it walked toward the object, sniffing around it before gently nudging the wooden surface with its nose.
The reel rolled a few inches across the ground, which only increased the donkey’s curiosity.
The donkey circled the reel several times, examining it from every angle. As it stepped closer, one of its front legs accidentally slipped through one of the large circular openings between the wooden supports.
Before the donkey could pull its leg back, the heavy reel shifted slightly and rotated, causing the leg to become firmly trapped inside the structure.
Startled by the sudden movement, the donkey instinctively stepped backward. Instead of releasing its leg, the heavy cable reel rolled along with it, remaining securely caught around the lower part of the leg.
Unable to understand what had happened, the donkey began shaking its leg and moving in small circles while trying to free itself.
Each attempt caused the reel to rotate awkwardly, making the situation more confusing. The weight of the wooden spool prevented the donkey from walking normally, and every few steps it had to stop to regain its balance.
Fortunately, the animal remained standing and avoided panicking, although it was clearly distressed.
Several nearby goats looked toward the commotion from across the fence, while a farm dog barked after hearing the unusual sounds coming from the roadside.
The peaceful morning was briefly interrupted by the repeated knocking of the wooden reel against the ground as the donkey continued trying to pull free.
A local farmer working in a nearby field soon noticed the donkey behaving unusually. At first, he thought the animal had simply wandered toward the roadside, but after seeing the large wooden reel moving together with the donkey, he immediately realized something was wrong.
The farmer calmly walked toward the animal, speaking in a gentle voice to avoid increasing its anxiety. Recognizing the familiar sound, the donkey gradually slowed its movements, allowing the farmer to approach safely.
Once close enough, the farmer carefully examined the trapped leg. He noticed that the donkey had not been injured, but the reel had become wedged around the leg in a position that prevented it from sliding free.
Pulling forcefully could cause unnecessary discomfort, so patience would be essential.
The farmer gently placed one hand on the donkey’s neck to reassure it while using the other to inspect the wooden reel. After several careful attempts, he realized the reel was simply too heavy for one person to handle safely.
He called a neighboring farmer for assistance.
Within a few minutes, the neighbor arrived carrying work gloves and a sturdy wooden block that could help stabilize the heavy spool during the rescue.
Together, they discussed the safest approach before beginning. One farmer remained beside the donkey, gently holding its halter and speaking calmly to keep it relaxed.
The other carefully positioned the wooden block beneath the reel, preventing it from rolling unexpectedly while reducing pressure on the trapped leg.
Working slowly, they gently rotated the reel a few inches at a time, carefully aligning the opening with the narrowest part of the donkey’s leg.
Every movement was small and controlled to avoid startling the animal.
Several times they paused, allowing the donkey to remain calm before continuing. Gradually, the wooden reel began shifting into a better position.

The farmers could see that progress was being made, although patience remained necessary.
