It started like any other afternoon walk.

But within minutes, it turned into a life-or-death race against time—
as a playful pup named Benny stumbled into a hidden wasp nest.

And what followed?
A terrifying fight for survival… and a team of heroes who wouldn’t give up.

A Walk That Turned Into a Nightmare

Benny, a 3-year-old golden retriever, was exploring the edge of a wooded park in rural Georgia when it happened.

One curious sniff too close to a fallen log—and suddenly, a swarm of agitated wasps burst from the earth.

“We heard him yelp once… then it was nonstop crying,” said owner Madison Clarke.
“He was surrounded. I couldn’t get to him fast enough.”

Within 30 seconds, Benny had been stung over 40 times.

A Desperate Dash to the Vet

By the time they reached the car, Benny’s face was swelling rapidly.
He was vomiting. His breathing was shallow.
And Madison knew she was losing him.

She called ahead to Green Haven Emergency Animal Hospital, where a team of vets was waiting—ready to act the moment Benny arrived.

“We were looking at full-blown anaphylactic shock,” said Dr. Ross, the attending veterinarian.
“It was critical. Every second counted.”

The Emergency Procedure That Saved His Life

Upon arrival, Benny was rushed to a treatment room.

The team administered:

  • High-dose antihistamines and corticosteroids

  • Oxygen therapy to stabilize breathing

  • IV fluids to manage blood pressure and flush toxins

  • Pain management to reduce trauma

“For the first 20 minutes, we didn’t know if he’d make it,” Dr. Ross said.

But slowly… miraculously… Benny began to stabilize.

48 Hours Later: A Tail Wag of Victory

After two days in intensive care, Benny stood up on shaky legs—tail wagging.

He had survived one of the worst wasp sting cases the clinic had ever seen.

“I can’t explain the relief,” Madison said.
“I truly thought I was going to lose my best friend.”

What You Can Learn From Benny’s Story

Wasp stings can be deadly for dogs—especially when stung multiple times or if they have allergic reactions.

Know the symptoms:

  • Swelling of the face or throat

  • Trouble breathing

  • Vomiting or collapse

  • Disorientation or seizures

Act FAST:

  • Get to a vet immediately

  • Never try to treat serious stings at home

  • If you live in a rural area, identify emergency clinics in advance`
