Water still covered parts of the uneven ground, forming shallow puddles along the roadside ditch where runoff from nearby fields had gathered overnight.

The air smelled damp and earthy, while distant thunder still rolled faintly beyond the hills.

In one large puddle beside the road, a massive fish had somehow become stranded.

The fish, likely swept from a nearby overflowing stream during the storm, lay trapped in the shallow muddy water with little room to move.

Its scales glistened beneath the gray daylight as it thrashed weakly from side to side, sending ripples through the puddle and splashing muddy water across the surrounding grass.

Above the puddle, dark shapes circled in the air.

A flock of crows had gathered quickly around the struggling fish.

The puddle itself was beginning to shrink slowly as water drained into the surrounding soil. If the fish remained stranded much longer, survival would become increasingly unlikely.

The dog appeared restless.

It paced around the puddle repeatedly, occasionally barking toward the crows overhead before returning its focus to the fish. Though likely not fully understanding the situation, the animal’s behavior clearly disrupted the flock’s growing confidence.
