Mr. Collins eventually returned to work after recovering, but he never forgot that day. On his first trip back behind the wheel, Max trotted beside the bus again — this time wearing a reflective vest that said “SCHOOL GUARD DOG.”
Every time the bus stopped to pick up children, Max would sit and wait until everyone was safely aboard before walking away. The kids would wave from the windows, shouting,
