Yesterday was truly a scorching day. The air was still, the asphalt was melting underfoot, and all I wanted was to get home as quickly as possible and turn on the air conditioner. But before that, I decided to stop by the supermarket to pick up something for dinner.
In the parking lot, I was walking past the cars, squinting against the sun as usual, when I suddenly felt something… strange. I turned around — and saw her. A German Shepherd. She was sitting in a closed car, suffering from the heat. I immediately felt alarmed: the windows were fogged up from the heat, the dog was panting heavily, her tongue out, eyes glazed. It was clear — she was already on the brink. If it was +30°C outside, inside the car it was much hotter.
On the windshield, I noticed a note with a phone number. I called. A man answered. I tried to explain calmly:
“Your dog is suffering from the heat, come back immediately, at least open a window!” But I got a cold reply:
— I left her water. This is none of your business.
There was indeed water — but in a sealed bottle. I was boiling with anger. How, tell me, can a dog drink water from a bottle?! I couldn’t wait any longer. I picked up the nearest rock and smashed it against the glass with all my strength. It shattered with a crash. The alarm blared across the parking lot, but I didn’t care.
I pulled the dog out. She collapsed beside me, breathing heavily, but was already starting to feel better. I poured water over her and called for help.
A few minutes later, the so-called “owner” showed up. His face twisted with rage:
— What are you doing! I’m calling the police!
When the police arrived, something happened that none of us expected
Well, he did call. Only the police, after hearing both sides and seeing the condition of the animal, decided that I hadn’t broken the law. He was fined, charged with animal cruelty, and I — got a handshake and a “thank you.”
And the dog?
She’s at home with me now. A well-fed, happy bundle of loyalty. The same German Shepherd who nearly died yesterday because of someone’s irresponsibility is sleeping at my feet today. And you know what — I would break that window again. Without hesitation.
I just can’t understand these irresponsible people who don’t realize that animals are living beings just like us, and they need care. They are not toys!
