Australian mother Katy Takacs tragically di3s in Bali while celebrating her birthday

admin March 8, 2025

A mother-of-three has tragically died while holidaying in Bali to celebrate her birthday.

Katy Takacs, from Sydney, travelled to Indonesia with a group of her closest friends on February 21.

However, tragedy struck when she died in her sleep 11 days later on March 4.

Photos posted online show Takacs posing at the airport with friends before boarding the plane.

The group had journeyed overseas to mark Takacs’ birthday, which was on February 19.

“Thank you for all your calls, texts and posts,” Takacs wrote on February 20.

“It may have been my birthday yesterday but the party starts tomorrow. Bali-bound with my favourite people!”

Tributes have begun to flow for Takacs, who was a beloved mother, grandmother and netball coach.

Her heartbroken son said: “We cannot believe you are gone.”

“Mum, my heart aches,” he wrote online.

“I cannot thank you enough for being the most amazing mother, the most amazing human I have ever known and loved. I will always miss you, I will always love you, I am so grateful to have had you as my mum.

“My kids are without their nan and are feeling the loss, something that I wish they never would have to go through.

“We are all shattered and missing you like crazy.

“RIP mum until I see you again.”

East Campbelltown Eagles Netball Club said it had lost one of its “Easts family members”.

“Katy was an integral part of our club, she coached, mentored and supported a lot of our players, also helping out on the committee,” it said.

“To Katy’s children and their family, we send all our love — your mum was such a beautiful lady.

“RIP Katy you will be sadly missed.”

Takacs’ body remains in Bali, with her family struggling to bring her home.

Family friend Leanne Gibson has launched a GoFundMe to help her children raise funds to bring her back to Australia and “give her the send-off she deserves”.

“As we all know, one of the hardest parts is the ‘no goodbyes’,” Gibson said, asking for donations so “Katy’s children and family can get the help they need to bring their much-loved mum home”.
