Ingredients

1 pound pizza dough Thawed if frozen
½ cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce Plus extra for dipping
1½ cups mozzarella cheese Shredded
½ cup pepperoni Sliced
¼ cup Parmesan cheese Grated
1 tablespoon butter Melted
1 teaspoon garlic Minced
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 egg Beaten
1 tablespoon fresh parsley Chopped
all-purpose flour For dusting

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling Pin
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly dust the work surface with all-purpose flour. Place the pizza dough on the surface and roll it into a rectangle measuring approximately 10 by 14 inches.
  3. Spread the pizza sauce down the center of the dough, leaving space around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella over the sauce, arrange the pepperoni slices on top, and finish with the grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Make diagonal cuts along both sides of the dough while leaving the filling in the center untouched. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating from one side to the other to create a braided appearance.
  5. Combine the melted butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl. Brush the stromboli first with the beaten egg, then lightly brush it with the garlic butter mixture.
  6. Carefully transfer the stromboli to the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly inside.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the warm stromboli. Allow it to rest for approximately 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with warm pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Leave some empty space around the edges when spreading the pizza sauce so the filling stays inside during baking. Fold the dough strips alternately to create the braided shape. Allow the stromboli to rest for 5 minutes before slicing so the warm filling can settle.
