The morning mist still clung to the countryside when the first rays of sunlight stretched across the quiet pasture.

Dew covered the grass like thousands of tiny crystals, and the gentle breeze carried the scent of damp earth and wildflowers.
It was the kind of peaceful morning that usually passed unnoticed, where the only sounds came from birds singing in distant trees and horses grazing calmly across the rolling fields.
But near the edge of an old pasture, beside a broken wooden fence that had collapsed after a recent storm, a frightening scene was unfolding.
A little foal had become tightly entangled in several bright blue ropes that were wrapped around the remains of the fallen fence.
The young horse, still small and unsteady compared to a full-grown mare, had apparently wandered too close while exploring the area.
The ropes, once used to secure sections of fencing, had become twisted and tangled after the storm. What seemed harmless from a distance had become a dangerous trap.
The foalโs front legs were caught between broken wooden rails and loops of blue rope that had tightened with every movement.
One section had wrapped around its chest while another had become twisted around one of its hind legs. The more the frightened youngster struggled, the tighter the ropes became. Every attempt to pull free caused the fallen boards to shift and drag against the grass, creating more confusion and fear.
Its large eyes were filled with panic.
The foal let out anxious cries, short and desperate sounds that echoed across the quiet pasture. Its breathing came quickly, and its entire body trembled from exhaustion and confusion.
It was too young to understand what had happened. Instinct told it to run, but every attempt only increased the pressure around its body.
Not far away stood another horse.
A beautiful chestnut mare paced nervously beside the fence line. Her ears were pointed forward, and her eyes never left the trapped foal.
Every cry from the youngster caused her to react immediately. She moved closer, then stepped back again, uncertain and distressed.
Her powerful body seemed filled with nervous energy. She tossed her head repeatedly and stamped the ground, clearly aware that something was terribly wrong.
The mare approached as close as she dared, lowering her head toward the foal. She let out soft whinnies, almost as if trying to calm the frightened youngster. But no amount of reassurance could free the ropes. The foal answered with weak cries and another frantic struggle.
The fallen fence shifted slightly.
The movement startled both animals.
The foal stumbled and nearly lost its balance before collapsing onto its side in the grass.
The ropes tightened again, holding the young horse awkwardly against the broken rails. Bits of hay and dirt clung to its soft coat. Its sides rose and fell rapidly with every breath.
The mare reacted immediately, pacing in circles and letting out louder calls. She ran several meters away before quickly returning, unable to leave yet unable to help.
Her movements revealed pure anxiety. She kept watching, waiting, hoping for something to change.
Above them, clouds drifted slowly across the blue sky. A few birds landed briefly on nearby fence posts before flying away again. The world around them remained peaceful and indifferent, unaware of the struggle taking place below.
Time passed slowly.
The foal’s movements became weaker. Its cries, once loud and frantic, had become softer and more exhausted. Sweat dampened its coat despite the cool morning air. It occasionally lifted its head and looked toward the mare, whose presence remained the only comfort it had.
The chestnut horse stayed close.
She moved along the fence line repeatedly, stopping every few moments to stare at the ropes.
Sometimes she stretched her neck toward the foal and gently touched its nose. Other times she simply stood still, ears flicking nervously as she listened to every sound around them.
The breeze shifted.
From far down the dirt road came the faint sound of tires crunching over gravel.
The mare lifted her head immediately.
Her ears pointed toward the noise, and she froze. The foal also reacted weakly, raising its head slightly before letting it fall back into the grass.
A pickup truck slowed as it approached the pasture entrance.
The driver had been passing through the area when something unusual caught his attention. At first, he noticed the mare pacing nervously near the fence.
Then he saw the movement in the grass and realized another horse was lying beside the broken rails.
He stopped immediately.

Stepping out of the vehicle, the man closed the door quietly and walked toward the field. As he approached, he could hear the foal’s weak cries and see the mare standing protectively nearby.
